BODY OF WATER – Liquidity and Anthropic Element

Before water became one of the key themes of scientific and artistic research related to sustainability and survival in the 20th century, it was already a constant theme in Venice. The city was founded thanks to the existence of the lagoon, yet it is constantly challenged by this very element, as the MOSE project reminds us, which is supposed to protect the city from high tides for a few years. Often described as a mother or womb, water is both the economic and mythological genesis of Venice, as well as the supporter of fragile relationships like those between the city and tourism, port and ships, sustainability and exploitation.

In a collective exhibition, Body of Water brings together works that offer reflections on the relationship between humans and the element of water. At the center is the art of living with water: fishing strategies, craftsmanship, protection, pollution, and… narrative, cultural, and structural infrastructures for coexistence with this liquid element.

Venice becomes the starting point, a symbolic place in its uniqueness and fragility, for a broader discussion.
