Nuit Blanche

An Evening and Night of Transformation, Artistic Performance, and Joy! Margins: Let’s Celebrate!

7:30 PM | TRANSFORMATION – Interactive Activities
(including 8:00 PM–9:00 PM | Performance by Paula Doyle: “Who am I?”)
Identity is the expression of what is neither spoken nor written, but the deep conviction of how we perceive ourselves in the world.
We live in a world where authenticity is weaponized against us — a world that forces us to constantly reinvent ourselves to fit into the superficiality that too often holds our fragile communities together…
Let’s explore together a few rabbit holes of the “who am I,” beyond labels.

9:15 PM | Poetic and Political Performance by Marie-Julie Chalu and Marina Monmirel: “To Our Rebellious Humanities”
(based on the book by Kiyémis)
À Nos Humanités Révoltées is a performance poetry show created and performed by Marie-Julie Chalu and Marina Monmirel, based on the eponymous poetry collection by Kiyémis (2018). The performance weaves together ten poems from the book with original video and sound creations.
Conceived in 2019 in collaboration with the poet, this project amplifies Black women’s voices and their resistance to intersecting systems of oppression, through an emotional, embodied, and multidimensional performance.

Artistic Statement
2018. À Nos Humanités Révoltées, the poetry collection by Kiyémis, is published for the first time. A title that, like a scream, breaks a heavy silence. A title that touches, resonates, and moves us—deeply. A work that puts our wounds, and those of our Black contemporaries, into words. A work that joins a growing chorus of Afro-feminist voices asserting themselves in public, media, political, and artistic spaces.

It was in this rich and stimulating context that we met Kiyémis at La Colonie Barrée (Paris 10th) during the study day “Black Feminism(s): Still Standing!” organized by Gender Studies Master’s students from Paris 8. There, we read several of her poems. From those exchanges and public readings, an enthusiastic need emerged—to give this collection voice and embodiment through a more developed artistic form. It must be said again: far too rarely do we, as artists, have the opportunity and legitimacy to present a performance that addresses the political intimacies and complex identities of Black women living in the West on French stages.

We took hold of her vibrant, committed poetry and shaped it into a polymorphic stage proposal, blending diverse forms of artistic expression—spoken word, music, video, dance, and more. Adapting poetry required us to engage in a unique exploration of sensory and scenic imagery, to go beyond recitation and allow interpretive work to flourish. That’s why we call our work a performance.

Deeply committed to accessibility in terms of space and audience, we envision this piece being performed both in traditional venues and in non-dedicated spaces. In this way, it becomes a space of recognition for those directly concerned and a bridge for those who may feel “distanced” from its message.

For us, poetry is a political act and a living art. We believe emotion is a seed for change—and this is what live performance is about: moving together, understanding ideas through emotions felt collectively in the same moment.

Nos Humanités Révoltées disturbs, questions, and continuously creates with what remains. It expresses emotion—and in doing so, reclaims and affirms our silenced humanities. Our poetic-political performance is a cry—full of hope, love, gentleness, and anger—to break the choking silence and to celebrate our reappropriated and transcended humanity.

10:15 PM | Tɔmbɔkɔ: Against Erasure, the Revɔlt! – Performance by TIE & La Furie
In resonance with the ongoing massacres in the Democratic Republic of Congo, artists Prisca LaFurie Munkeni Monnier and T.I.E Ngnima Sarr join forces in a visceral, embodied performance.
They trace the invisible threads linking lands torn apart by the enduring legacy of colonial and imperial exploitation — from which both the horrors of nuclear power and the industrial revolution were born.
The DRC, beating heart of Africa and a site of relentless resource-driven conflict, becomes here the epicenter of a dialogue. Together, TIE and LaFurie offer a ritual gesture of pain, healing, and memory.
Tɔmbɔkɔ is a visual poem, a sonic invocation, and a ritual performance. It’s an offering to Congo’s sovereignty. It’s not an elegy.
It’s an alarm.
A cry.

To amplify this cry, LaFurie brings to life a visual symphony: LAMUKA TATA
A film woven from fragments, historical archives, childhood memories, and ancestral knowledge.
A mystical dream.
A sonic revolt.
A call to awaken.

11:00 PM | Performance by Rékai Márk: The Birth of the Wondrous Stag
Born, run, die, be reborn.
Born, run, die, be reborn.
Born, run, die, …
From centuries-old myths, the Wondrous Stag — once hunted by countless peoples and tribes across Europe — is reborn once again, driven by the urge to guide those most in need. But who is left to guide? Where is the new promised land?
Join the cybernetic sabbath and resurrection of the pagan Deer-God in this performance by Hungarian artist, curator, and performer Mark Rékai, who delves into the space between folkloric iconography and the post-contemporary.
