LaFurie
Prisca Munkeni Monnier LaFurie is a visual artist, filmmaker, performer, and woman of letters. Her work—where family heritage and memories reflect a complex identity shaped by the history of the African continent—explores themes such as identity, memory, and transmission. Her hybrid art, spanning photography, visual poems, and performance, powerfully bears witness to the resistance of images against oblivion, creating a dialogue between past, present, and future… a final homage before the flood of time. Born in Brussels, she grew up in Kinshasa before moving to Johannesburg, where her art blossomed. The country of her birth is not her own, the state of her childhood has disappeared, and the nation on her passport barely exists. Only her culture remains—fragile, passed on through an oral tradition whose breath is fading.
