Leoluca Orlando is an Italian politician, lawyer, and current Member of the European Parliament with a strong focus on human rights, anti-corruption, and social justice. Known primarily for his long tenure as Mayor of Palermo, Orlando led the city through a major transformation, actively fighting against Mafia influence and implementing extensive reforms that revitalized Palermo’s public spaces, promoted cultural heritage, and improved social services.
As Mayor, Orlando was instrumental in promoting migrant rights, making Palermo a sanctuary city and advocating for policies that protect refugees and asylum seekers. He introduced measures to increase government transparency, boost civic engagement, and strengthen the city’s cultural and tourism sectors.
In his role as MEP, Orlando continues his work on issues such as rule of law, environmental protection, and social inclusion, drawing on decades of experience in combating organized crime and advocating for democratic principles.
