Towers of Winds Workshop

Towers of Winds is an environmental architecture research project, exploring new design possibilities for passive downdraft evaporative cooling devices in Athens. These experiments provide zero-enegy cooling and air movement at the scale of individual buildings and urban spaces, and can contribute to climate adaptation in increasingly hot cities.

Inspired by the ancient Tower of the Winds in Athens, the project combines passive evaporative cooling, environmental sensing, citizen science and public space design, and is a part of an iterative proof-of-concept testing programme. We collect new environmental data on thermal performance, pollution, and ask how architecture might simultaneously modify environmental conditions and cultivate ecological perception, participation and learning.

Join us in the building process and create a TRANSEUROPA tower of wind!
