2025 edition was a call to those at the margins – women, LGBTQIA+ communities, the racially oppressed, exiles, the uncertain, the angry, the joyful. Those who refuse to be silenced and erased. Those who combat with fire in their veins and solidarity in their hearts.

Undercurrents

The new edition of Transeuropa takes place in Venice and presents a rich schedule of events prepared in cooperation with local partners in the city. The programme will consist of performances, exhibitions, open assemblies, screenings, debates, workshops and community events.

The last edition of Transeuropa took place in Porto and it was organised in cooperation with DEMOS forum and the University of Porto. The programme consisted of events, exhibitions, meetings and music and involved a large number of historical spaces of the city.

Why Beyond the Wall

The new edition of Transeuropa takes place in the context of the thirtieth anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall (November 9, 1989-2019) and presents a rich schedule of events prepared in cooperation with BAM – Biennale Archipelago Mediterraneo. The programme will consist of events, exhibitions, meetings and music and will involve a large number of historical spaces of the city.

Why Convergent Spaces

In the past decade, TRANSEUROPA has attracted thousands of attendees and active participants through a decentralised event structure in over a dozen European cities and a high profile moment in one city. For the 2017 edition, Convergent Spaces, the main city for TRANSEUROPA is Madrid.

Transeuropa Festival is a unique transnational festival of culture, arts and politics, taking place in 13 cities all over Europe. It is not 13 different festivals happening at the same time, but one festival taking place throughout the continent.

Democracy, Equality and Culture Beyond the Nation State
TRANSEUROPA Festival does not shy away from the most pressing and difficult topics confronting European society and the rest of the world. In 2011 the main themes of the Festival were migration, Roma and traveller rights, media freedom, and a more just economy for after the crisis . These main themes were chosen by TRANSEUROPA Network for their importance and were discussed and explored in all twelve Festival cities, conclusions and experiences passed from city to city until the closing weekend, when transnational forums took place on each theme.

This edition of the Transeuropa Festival began on 25 April and runs until 10 May, around Europe Day, taking place simultaneously in London, Paris, Bologna, and Cluj-Napoca. Combining a cultural and artistic festival with a political event, it was conceived and organised by European Alternatives in partnership with the Allianz Kulturstiftung, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon, the European Parliament, the European Commission, and numerous local organisations in each of the four host cities.
