Many dominant visions of the future remain shaped by Euro-Western ideas of progress and human mastery. Hyper-individualism and techno-humanist imaginaries have intensified a global race toward futures defined by optimization, competition, and technological transcendence, raising questions about whose values shape the worlds we are building. What skies become visible when we move beyond the clouds of inherited ways of thinking? What futures emerge when we begin from different ways of relating to the living world?
This interactive and creative workshop invites participants to explore how Indigenous philosophies can expand our capacity to imagine and create futures otherwise. Through collaborative artistic practices, reflection, and speculative world-building, we will experiment with imagination as a tool for decolonization and systemic transformation. Together, we will ask: How can we imagine futures in which modernity is no longer the unquestioned horizon of human development? How might democracy change if reciprocity became its organizing principle and when It expands the human world? How can we reclaim agency and approach change as an act of creativity?
Through an Indigenous futurist lens, Yasmine Amal explores the intersections of collective transformation, spirituality, and decolonial thought. She is a self-taught artist, political scientist, and mediator born in Germany to Moroccan parents. Before dedicating herself to art, she worked in international relations with a focus on social cohesion.
Her artistic practice is guided by the question of how relationships, knowledge, and belonging can be reimagined beyond colonial structures. Drawing from her Amazigh heritage and Sufi thought she explores forms of existence beyond human-centered perspectives. Through abstract painting, she investigates the relationship between ego and soul, as well as the intimate connection between humans and the living world.
