Tracing the Invisible: Performance-led mixed-media animation workshop

Utilising a technique from her own artistic practice, Anna Járai leads participants in exploring their relationship with air through performance-led mixed-media animation. Following a guided embodiment exercise, participants will create 5-second micro choreographies that will be recorded on video. These digitised movements will then be extracted, printed, and translated back into the physical, analogue world frame by frame. Blending medium and message, this tactile process intentionally defies conventional genre boundaries as a subtle political gesture, reclaiming digital media through physical intervention.

In the final phase, participants will deconstruct their printed frames using mixed-media animation techniques, incorporating drawing, writing, and mark-making directly onto the paper. Once altered, the frames will be scanned back into a digital loop. By blending performance, video, and layered animation, attendees will craft unique, fluid visual snippets: moving artefacts of their own personal mythologies.

No prior experience of animation is required, but an interest in movement and performing arts is a plus.
